The SX4 is designed to cycle a broad range of 2¾-inch and 3-inch 12 gauge loads, including standard target loads, field loads, and heavier hunting shells. Winchester's Active Valve gas system automatically adjusts to accommodate different pressure levels, so you can transition between light clay loads and heavy waterfowl or upland shells without manual adjustment. Steel shot and other non-toxic hunting loads are fully compatible with the proper choke selection.

The SX4 Left-Hand is a genuinely purpose-built left-handed shotgun — not a simple safety swap. The bolt handle, loading port, and operating controls are all mirrored to the left side of the receiver, allowing left-handed shooters to cycle, load, and clear the action naturally without crossing hands or awkward manipulation. This makes it meaningfully more comfortable and faster to operate than a standard right-hand model used by a lefty.

For upland hunting (pheasant, quail, grouse), a Modified or Improved Modified choke is typically recommended. For waterfowl with non-toxic shot, use Extended choke tubes rated for steel shot — avoid Full chokes with steel loads. For sporting clays and skeet, Improved Cylinder and Skeet chokes offer the best pattern spread at typical target distances. The SX4 accepts the full range of Winchester Invector-Plus choke tubes, giving you excellent versatility across shooting disciplines.
