Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of varmint hunting is the Savage A22 Pro Varmint best suited for?
The A22 Pro Varmint is ideal for hunting small to medium varmints such as prairie dogs, ground squirrels, rabbits, and foxes. The .22 Magnum cartridge offers significantly more energy and range than a standard .22 LR, making it effective at distances out to 100–150 yards. The semi-automatic action and 10-round rotary magazine also make it excellent for situations where fast follow-up shots are needed.
Does the A22 Pro Varmint have a threaded barrel or accept a suppressor?
The standard Savage A22 Pro Varmint (model 47222) does not come with a factory-threaded barrel. If suppressor compatibility is a priority, Savage does offer other A22 variants with threaded barrels. Always verify local regulations regarding suppressor ownership and use before purchasing.
Is the Boyds Pro Varmint stock an upgrade over the standard A22 stock?
Yes — the Boyds Pro Varmint black wood stock is a notable upgrade over the standard synthetic stock found on base-model A22 rifles. It features a wider, flat-bottomed forend that rests more stably on shooting bags or bipods, reduced glare with its matte finish, and a more premium feel overall. This makes it particularly well-suited for bench-rest varminting and precision rimfire shooting.
