Frequently Asked Questions
Can the 10-round block be removed to restore full capacity?
No. DURAMAG uses a proprietary block-and-rivet system specifically designed for permanence. The block cannot be removed without destroying the magazine, making it fully compliant with California's magazine capacity restrictions and those of other restricted states.
Will this magazine fit my standard AR-15 lower receiver chambered in 7.62x39mm?
Yes. This DURAMAG is designed to fit any standard AR-15 style lower receiver that accepts 7.62x39mm magazines. It is not compatible with standard 5.56/.223 AR-15 lowers, as the 7.62x39mm cartridge requires a purpose-built magazine to feed reliably in the AR platform.
What makes DURAMAG better at feeding 7.62x39mm than other AR-15 magazines?
Feeding the tapered 7.62x39mm case into the straight magazine well of an AR-15 has historically caused reliability problems. DURAMAG's engineers developed proprietary internal geometry and feed-lip designs that address these issues specifically, resulting in consistent, reliable feeding where many other magazines fall short.

First experience with 7.62x39 ar mags
Just for reference, I bought these to use in a heavily modified AKM that uses AR mags to provide a functional AR bolt hold open. I bought two of these magazines for testing purposes, and after 500 rounds each I’m very pleased with these. These fit and function excellent, and feed reliably with nearly everything, from Wolf steel case to Norma brass. The only failures I had with these magazines were from Sterling steel case ammunition, however I don’t believe these problems came from the magazine as I had similar problems feeding from various ak magazines into both a wasr and a cmmg mutant. Moving on, the 10th round is extremely tight in the magazine. This is fantastic for ban states, where you want a normal looking magazine but you are required to have a limit. My only problem is impossible to insert a magazine on a closed bolt, which isn’t a very big concern. I will be purchasing more in the future.
