Frequently Asked Questions
Will this stock kit fit my AR-15 lower receiver?
This kit is designed to fit standard mil-spec AR-15 lower receivers. The six-position buffer tube follows mil-spec diameter standards, which is the most common specification across AR-15 platforms. Note that commercial-spec lower receivers use a slightly larger buffer tube diameter and are not compatible with this kit. If you're unsure which spec your lower uses, check the manufacturer's documentation or measure the buffer tube opening before purchasing.
What is the difference between a mil-spec and commercial buffer tube?
Mil-spec buffer tubes have a slightly smaller outer diameter (approximately 1.148") and a straight profile, while commercial buffer tubes are slightly larger (approximately 1.168") and feature a angled rear end. Because the tube diameter determines buttstock fit, mil-spec and commercial stocks are not interchangeable. This LBE kit uses a mil-spec tube, which is generally considered the higher standard and is compatible with the widest range of aftermarket AR-15 buttstocks.
Do I need any special tools to install this complete stock kit?
Installation requires a few basic AR-15 armorer tools, including a castle nut wrench (also called an armorers wrench) to properly torque the castle nut, and a receiver vise block to secure the lower receiver during assembly. The components are straightforward to install and well within the capability of a home gunsmith with basic AR-15 knowledge. Torquing the castle nut to the recommended 40–60 ft-lbs and staking it in place is strongly recommended for long-term reliability.
